DDCVS offers local groups access to facilities such as equipment loan and hire; encourages networking between individuals and groups within the sector and between local groups and the statutory sector; leads in identifying gaps in service provision and works with groups to develop new and innovative services to meet these needs.

DDCVS also works in partnership with local government and other agencies to shape the delivery of services. Partnerships help to ensure that there is a coherent and co-ordinated approach to tackling local needs.

Core Activities

Funding Advice - help in searching for funding for projects. Up-to-date information on local funding streams and a variety of resources such as Funder Finder, trustfunding.org and Derbyshire4Funding set up by the J4B company.

Partnership Work - has recently included work in developing a local Compact, being involved in the Rural Pathfinder, the Local Strategic Partnership, the Rural Action Zone, the Leader+ Local Action Group, and a number of health-related forums such as the Health Improvement sub-group and the Patient and Public Involvement group.

Projects

Signpost Project - supports families who have a child under the age of 18 in the Derbyshire Dales and the High Peak. Working directly with families, helping them to sort out their problems.

Leader+ Access project - Leader+ Peak, Dales and Moorlands is a £2.5M European Community initiative that is assisting rural communities to improve the quality of life and economic prosperity in the Derbyshire and Staffordshire Peak District. Leader+ Access stimulates new ideas to tackle access problems. It’s aim is to help improve the quality of life for women and young people who may be facing isolation issues because of lack of public or affordable private transport.

Management and Staff

DDCVS is an independent Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee. The organisation is managed by a voluntary management committee made up of people resident or working in the Derbyshire Dales. On the committee there are representatives from Derbyshire Rural Community Council, Derbyshire Dales Volunteer Centre, Peak District National Park Authority and Derbyshire Dales Careline.

Chief Executive Neil Moulden manages the organisation and supports key partnerships with external agencies. The other 6 staff comprise: a Finance and Administration Manager; a Signpost Project Manager and Worker; a Development Worker who manages the Leader+ Access project and the training programme; a Development Worker who co-ordinates the information service and provides funding advice; a third Development Worker specialising in support for groups with a health and social care remit.

Premises

The main office is in Bakewell at the Agricultural Business Centre. DDCVS also has an outreach office in Ashbourne, at Derbyshire Dales VC, where most staff occasionally work.
