High Peak CVS premisesHigh Peak CVS aims to promote community and voluntary sustainability in the High Peak area.

This involves supporting and facilitating the development of voluntary and community organisations through the provision of practical services and resources such as information, training, facilities, managerial consultancy and identifying funding.

High Peak CVS seeks to promote networking and liaison within all sectors working within the area, through partnership working and co-operation.

Core Activities

Development

  • Supporting, encouraging and training groups of individuals who want to create new organisations to meet needs that they have identified in their community.
  • Providing support, encouragement and guidance for existing groups so that they meet new areas of need they have identified in their community.

Liaison

  • Helping voluntary and community groups deal effectively with other sectors (Health, Local Authority, Central Government, Private sector).
  • Providing forums for groups to share ideas and information and to learn from each other. Enabling representation
  • Assisting groups in their concerns and aspirations and helping them to voice their concerns and mount campaigns.
  • Assisting the voluntary and community sector to respond to changing laws, rules and opportunities.

Services

  • Practical services and support for local groups: Computing; Internet access; Printing and copying; Accounting and financial management; Insurance; Employment; Finding funding and support in writing applications and business plans; Policy writing; Constitutions; Managing projects; Starting a new group; Team building; Running meetings
  • Training and links to training.
  • Information services through a Directory of Local Community and Voluntary Organisations and Community Resource Library.
  • Communication service to and between voluntary and community groups through newsletters, web pages, public presentations and telephone advice.

Partnership Working

Strengthening local partnerships through the informed involvement of the voluntary and community sector.

Projects

Small Group Project - practical help and support to small local voluntary and community groups in the High Peak, particularly those who are disadvantaged, marginalised or rurally isolated.

ProHelp - free professional support and advice for Voluntary and Community Groups in High Peak and Derbyshire Dales.

SUSTAIN - information, advice and training to enable local community organistions to develop in sustainable ways.

Community Voices - delivers development support to groups across the High Peak, concentrating on working with groups in areas of deprivation, groups that serve children, young people and families and those groups with a health-related purpose

Arts Development - an Arts Development Officer at High Peak CVS focuses on delivering the key recommendations within the High Peak Arts Strategy.

ICT - a range of projects to help voluntary and community organisations across the area make best use of ICT (Information & Communications Technology) in their work.

Management and Staff

Kevin SkingsleyLocal Groups, organisations and individuals are encouraged to become members of High Peak CVS to ensure that the organisation is governed by the wishes of the groups it exists to support. The CVS is constituted and registered as a charity and a company limited by guarantee and is managed by a Board of Trustees.

High Peak CVS is co-ordinated by Chief Executive Kevin Skingsley with a staff of 17, including a Services Programme Manager and 5 ICT/Information workers; a Development Programme Manager and 6 development workers and support staff; an Office & Finance Manager and 2 administration workers.

Premises

The High Peak CVS building at Whaley Bridge is fully accessible. It has space for a number of other community and voluntary sector groups in rented offices or at hired desks. There is a large training room and a smaller meeting room alongside, both of which are available to hire. A range of useful equipment can also be hired by member organisations. A Resource Library has lots of leaflets and information about local organisations, along with a range of books, CD-ROMS, reports and videos that can be borrowed.
