Groundwork Derby & Derbyshire
Groundwork Erewash Valley has become Groundwork Derby & Derbyshire covering the SSP area. This marks the culmination of 3 years work to expand the Trust from the previous existing areas of Erewash and Amber Valley, into South Derbyshire, Derbyshire Dales, High Peak and Derby City. North East Derbyshire, Bolsover and Chesterfield remain within the Groundwork Creswell area.
Groundwork is a federation of charitable trusts, each working with their partners to improve the quality of the local environment, the lives of local people and the profitability of local business. Each Groundwork Trust is a partnership between the public, private and voluntary sectors, and each has its own board of trustees.
Groundwork Derby & Derbyshire aim "to build sustainable communities through joint environmental action", by encouraging local people, local businesses and other organisations to become involved in practical projects that improve their quality of life, bring about regeneration and lay the foundations for sustainable development. They employ a team of landscape architects, graphic designers, digital media workers, environmental education professionals, ecologists and community and youth workers, who are supported by administrative and financial teams.
The Peak & Dales Team will be the first of their geographically focussed teams, dedicated to rolling out a programme of regeneration projects aimed specifically to address rural issues. The High Peak Office is in Glossop at Glossopdale Business Centre, Howard Town House, High Street West, Glossop SK13 8DA,Tel 0845 129 7777 ext 3529.
High Peak CVS Name Change
At the AGM on 19 October, members approved an official name change to “High Peak CVS” with the tag line “Community and Voluntary Support” as this better reflects what the organisation does.
The previous name 'High Peak Council for Voluntary Service' didn’t really describe the organisations aims and activities, and people confused the identity with the borough council.
One of the triggers to changing the name was that the national association, NACVS, changed its name last year to NAVCA (National Association for Voluntary and Community Action) and so it was necessary to consider if “High Peak Voluntary and Community Action” would be appropriate.
However, High Peak CVS have decided to retain the 'CVS' identity that people are familiar with. They will use the tag line “Community and Voluntary Support” on their new logo, as that describes what they do.
